Per your request, I made a site visit the house and the exterior deck at the above address. The purpose of the site visit was to evaluate
the condition of the deck rim joist that had been altered to install HVAC equipment and to provide recommendations for repair, if
necessary.
Observations:
The rim of the deck is constructed of triple 2X10s treated southern pine. This rim spans 7' between posts and supports one end of 10'
joists spanning back to a ledger on the house.
The 9.25" deep triple beam is perforated by 2 — 3.5" diameter plastic vent pipes. They are side by side and set high in the beam. The
distance from the bottom of the pipes to the bottom of the beam is 5.5"
Recommendation:
No remedial action required. The altered beam is sufficient to support the expected deck loads.
