As you mentioned, trees and other natural amenities aze one of the features which make Eagan a desirable place in which to live. Likewise, businesses find Eagan an at[ractive place to locate in part because of the growing population in and azound the city. The city has limited resources for public acquisition and ownership o£ land, and limited connol over the development of private land. Currently, there are approximately 1200 acres in the city's pazk system, about 300 acres of which is intensively maintained. In addition, Lebanon Hills Regional Pazk in southern Eagan is about 1600 acres, and Fort Snelling State Pazk encompasses approximately 1400 acres in northwest Eagan. Development of private property is managed and guided through city plans, policies and ordinances. Eagan's Tree Preservation Ordinance and Water Quality Management Plan are two tools targeted towazd natural resource protection. The Tree Preservation Ordinance establishes standards for tree preservation, mechanisms to assure orderly development in wooded azeas and minimize tree loss, incentives for environmentally compatible site design, and mitigation of envirorunental impacts resufting from tree removal. The city's Water Quality Management Plan establishes methods for evaluating, maintaining and monitoring water quality. In the past 25 yeazs, Eagan has moved from a primarily rural community to a primarily urban community and will continue to experience its share of this metropolitan region's growth in the future. It is our goal to manage this growth to provide for both the economic vitality and stability of the community as well as the protection and preservation of its natural resources.
