requirements for exterfor plaster (stucco) appiication are not always being met We
want to bring this to your attention, as it is not a required inspection.
When making appiication for a building permit, which includes stucco application as part
of the project, information to verify code compliance should be included with subm'ittal
documents. Building Code requirements related to stucco include:
. UBC 1402.1. Vertical joints in paper shaii be lapped at least 6 inches and horizontal
joints shall be lapped at least 2 inches.
. UBC 1402.2. Exterior openings shall be flashed to make them weatherproof.
. UBC 2506.4. Weather resistive barriers over wood base sheathing shali indude 2
• layers of grade D paper. (9ee Unifortn Building Code Standard 141).
. UBC 2506.5. A coirosion resistant weep screed with a minimum vertical attachment
flange of 3 Y: inches shall be provided at or beiow the toundation plate line on all
exterior stud wails. The screed must be piaced a minimum of 4 inches above the
eaRh or 2 inches above paved areas and shall be of a type that will allow trapped
water to drain to the exterior of the building.
. UBC 2508.1. Scucco must cover, but not extend below, the lath and paper for slab
on grade constructian•
. UBC Table 25 C. Fasteners for metal lath must be 6 inches on center at supports•
. UBC 108.7. The building official may require additional inspections.

wartn side of insulated ceilines. walls and floors. Polye[hylene vapor retarders must be 4-mills or thicker. The code
requires a vapor retarder to be installed only on rim joisu that are susceptible to condensation from moisture diffusion.
AIR BARRiER: A barrier asainst air leakage must be installed to prevent leaka¢e of moisture-laden air from the
conditioned space into exterior ceilings, walls and floors.
• Plumbing and heating penetrations must be air sealed. An ait barrier must be provided behind any tub or shower that
is located on an exterior wal1.
•Air sealine must be done at all dropped ceiling areas, chimney Flues, ventilation ducu, and other fire stops that
penettate the vapor re[arder.
• Holes in the building envelope for electrical and telecommunications equipment must be air seafed, includine the
service entrance, wires, conduit. cables. panels, recessed fi3ht fixtures, and fans (where vapor retarder is penetrated).
• Join[s in the buildin¢ envelope must be sealed, including azound window and door frames, between wall cavities and
window or door frames.
• Tested air infiltration rates must not exceed 034 cfm/square foo[ of operable sash crack for windows, 0.5 cfm/square
foot for residen[ial doon and 1.35 cfm/square foot for commercial doors.
WIND WASIi BARRIER: An air-impermea6le barrier must be installed at the attic edge (baffles must be rigid
material resistant to wind driven moisturc); and overhangs, such as cantilevered floors and bay windows.
