Thank you for taking the time to write and inquire about home occupations within
the City of Eagan. The Eagan City Code specifically addresses home occupation
in Chapter 11, Section 11.03, Subdivision 28 as follows:
"Home Occupation" - Any gainful occupation meeting all of the
following requirements when engaged in only by persons residing in
their dwelling, when that occupation is conducted within the
principal structure, when evidence of the occupation is not visible
from the street, when no signs are present, no stock-in-trade is
stored on the premises, and over-the-counter retail sales are not
involved.....
Based on information contained in your letter regarding warehousing and
employees (assuming your employees would not be residing at your house), you
would not meet code requirements and, therefore, this home occupation as
described would not be allowed.
Regarding 1682 Woodgate Lane, I performed a drive-by inspection of this home and
saw no evidence of a home occupation being conducted. I do not recall seeing
a pole building or an additional garage at this site. In fact, the day I went
by (approximately one month ago), the garage door was open and I did not see any
stock-in-trade being stored in the garage.
I will monitor this site when I am in the field conducting inspections and
should I note any violations, I will act on them accordingly.

A professional person may use his residence for
consultation, emergency treatment or performance of
religious rites, but not for the general practice of his
profession when such general practice will involve the need
for more than three (3) parking spaces for the occupant and
visitors. No accessory buildings or attached garage shall
be used for such home occupations. 8ome occupations include
professional offices, minor repair services, photo or art
studios, dressmaking, teaching limited to three (3) students
at any one time, and similar uses. A home occupation shall
not be interpreted to include beauty or barber shops,
tourists homes, restaurants or similar use; however, these
may be allowed as permitted under Section 11.20 of this
Chapter.
29. "Horticulture" - The ptoduction and storage of
fruits, vegetables, and keeping, taising or production of
livestock.
30. "Junk Yard" - An area where used, waste,
discarded or salvaged materials are bought, sold, exchanged,
stored, baled, cleaned, abandoned, packed, disassembled, or
handled, including but not limited to scrap iron, and other
metals, rags, paper, rubber products, bottles and lumber.
