is only intended to heip you in complying with the basic requirements of the energy code. For
further information, please contact the Energy Information Center of the State of Minnesota at

~ Roof - ceiling assemblies - R-38 Ceiling insulation allowed if Advanced or
improved framing techniques are used.
Advanced = ceiling framing that achieves full
insulating value to the outside of exterior walis,
e.g. energy trusses. Improved = min. 7-1/2"
between the wall top plate and roof sheathing.
- R-44 Ceiling insulation required at rafters or trusses
that are framed without Advanced, or Improved,
ftaming technique.
U= 0.026 Average over entire ceiling area.
? In ceilings without attics, insulation must be R-38 between framing pJIs it is suggested that
R-5 sheathing be installed on the ceiling side (e.g. 2" x 12" framing at vaults/dormers;
scissors trusses; etc.

? An air-impermeable barrier must be provided where insulation is susceptible to intrusion
(wind-wash) of outdoor air (e.g. at attic knee-walls, exterior wall plate line at rafters,
cantilevered floors, etc.).
