The primary impetus for this street light involves public safety. I have submitted a diagram showing the location of existing street lamps in the area and the location of the neighborhood trail system. A combination of the current lighting spacing and lack of a dwelling on Outlot A render this area of the block to be very dark at night. A large number of area residents make use of the Association trails and this portion of Walnut Lane, particularly in the evenings approaching and after dusk. It is our belief that the addition of a street light at the indicated location would provide the needed illumination to facilitate pedestrians and automobiles sharing of this segment of the roadway. Over t.7:E past few years, neighboring residents and myself have had problems with homes and automobiles being egged, mailboxes knocked down and automobiles driving through the outlot. The installation of a street light may also tend to detour this type of activity. We are petitioning the City to conduct a feasibility study for the installation of a street light at the location indicated. This subdivision was constructed during the mid-70's and the existing street lamps consist of rather inexpensive wood poles and basic lanterns. It would be our recommendation to attempt to erect a similar style light pole and luminaire in an attempt to be consistent with the existing lighting system and hopefully keep costs down. In inspecting the area, it is apparent that a potential power source for this light is located on the common property line between 1770 and 1772 Walnut Lane (see attached map). There also appears to be an air relief manhole structure located in the boulevard area where the proposed lamp is to be located. Page Two Mr. Michael P. Foertsch, P.E.
