M N At your request we have performed a structural analysis of the "ta11 wall" assemblies at the Family Room and Foyer for the referenced s s i o s- i z a o residence. Information regazding the framing at these locations was taken from the construcrion documents prepared by Toll Architecture, dated 2-27-06. The following are our comments and recommendafions for these walls: 1. 2-2x6 wa11 studs at 16" on center aze adequaYe structurally. 2. Some watt stad arnfiguraieans eL bea~:r beariPCg eonditiens aFa set adequate. We have provided recommendations for framing at these locations (see 2/A.7.06.A, 4/A.7.06.B and 5/A7.06.B attached). 3. Note that the stud framing shown on the current construction documents and in our recommendafions have a maximum deflection ratio of span/180 under wind loading per ASCE Standard 7-98. This deflection does not cause a concern regarding the structural performance of the framing, but we cannot comment on the performance of the exterior/interior finishes. It is the responsibility of the Architect and Owner to verify the effects of the lateral movement on the proposed finishes with the finish suppliers. Miscellaneous Items 1. During our review of the stud wall framing we noted the roof design snow load of 30 PSF in the chart on Sheet A.4.R.06. We received a faY memo from Toll Brothers, Inc. regazding special framing conditions at the narrow retum walls on each side of the garage opening as directed by the City of Eagan (4 page fax dated 3-15-06). While it is our opinion that the main wind force resisting system for the structure would not require special framing and connections to the foundafions at these locations we can understand the reason for the City to suggest such detailing.
