At your request we have perFormed a structural analysis of the
s r. r n u L, n1 H "ta11 wall" assemblies at the Family Room, Living Room and Foyer for
the referenced residence. Infocmation regarding the framing at these
s 5 1 o s- i z e o locations was taken from the wnstruction documents prepared hy
Toll Architecture, dated 6-9-06. The following are our comments and
recommendations for these walls:
1. 2x6 watl studs at 16" on center are adequate structurally.
2. Some wall stud configurations at beam bearing conditions are not
adequate. We have provided recommendations for &aming at these
locations (see 1/A.7.A, 2/A.7.A, 3/A.7 and 5/A.7A attached).
3. Note that the stud framing shown on the current construction
documents and in our recommendations for the Family Room and
Foyer have a maximum deflecrion ratio of span/180 under wind
loading per ASCE Standazd 7-98. This deflection does not cause a
concem regazding the structural performance of the framing, but we
cannot comment on the performance of the exterior/interior Snishes.
It is the responsibility of the Architect and Owner to verify the effects
of the lateral movement on the proposed finishes with the finish
suppliers.
