Joe:
As I mentioned on the phone yestezday. It is important to have a themoal brcak between
the radiant floor heated concrete and the non heated driveway. This preaents the
migration of heat to the driveway. Tkrere is a potential £ar the formation of ice on the
area directly in front of the doors. A passive snowmelting syscem.
The lazgest concern zs the wickin,g away of energy fxom the slab and. the loss of
efficiency, and inczeased cost of operarion.
We normal.ly request a thermal break to be located at the expansion joint between the
garage sJ.ab and the driveway. This is normally located at tbe mid-centet po'snt of the
door opening. I understand the need to adapt this to your siNation at the Welter-
To1lCoccoran Project. I agtee that the thermai break needs to be azljusted 10'.' out £rom
the door area to allow for the strucuual integrity of the slab regarding the footer. This is
not a perfect siriiation, but will have a minimal impact in the operadon of the system.
