Building a total hourly heat loss, including infiltration which

Each construction is to be identified as it was on the U-
value calculation form and the corresponding U-value listed.
Next, figure the area of that particular type of construction
and list it in the Table. Do this for each different wall,
roof, or exposed soffit area above grade, counting the glass
on the south onTy if the passive solar gain is not to be
included in the calculations.
Calculation of infiltration should be based upon 1/2 air
change per hour for the heated volume of the house unless
a heat exchanger is used to recapture heat from exhaust
air in which case infiltration can be lowered in accordance
with the efficiency of the heat exchange unit.
Calculate the temperature difference (TD) between inside
and outside using 720F as the standard indoor design
temperature and the outside design temperature for the
location listed in Section 4.2 which is nearest the site.
Multiply.values for each construction and infiltration
to arrive at the hourly heat loss for each at winter design
conditions.
Add the hourly heat loss values in the right-hand column to
get total hourly above grade heat loss for the house.
Summation of the surface areas is included simply as a
method for cross-chekcing against wall area calculated
from overall building dimensions to ensure that no areas
are omitted or counted twice.
Total hourly above grade heat loss (QHT) is next used to
determine montly heat loss using degree day data from
Section 4.3. Use data for the recording station closest ~
to the building site. Temperature differential (TD) ,
as contained in equation 3.4.2 is the same value used to
calculate hourly heat loss in equation 3.4.1. Record monthly
degree days and heat loss in Table 3.4.2 and in Table 3.4.4
the heating pay total from Section 4.3 should be put in the
blank below Table 3.4.2.
Monthly heat loss values are typically recorded in millions
of BTU's (106 BTU) to simplify the numbers which must be
manipulated. Rounding these numbers to two decimal places
is sufficiently accurate for these calculations.

through roofs, wall, and exposed perimeter areas with
negligible amounts due to the floor conduction. Ground
losses, unlike those above grade, occur continually but

Usin9 the average depth, determine monthly ground temperature
for the area being considered from Section 4.4 and calculate
monthly heat loss (Q) using Equation 3.4.3. Do a separate
calculation for each construction used in a particular
house.
In all cases, ddv is the shortest distance from the vertical
midpoint of the area to grade. In the case of a steeply
bermed wall, the dav distance viould be the line throu9h
the center point of the insulation which is perpendicular
to the surface of the berm. For situations where a floor ,
slab is level with grade, the "surface" temperature profile
should be used and the wall assumed to be 4' high yielding
an area of 4' x exposed perimeter. The U-value used
fo below grade construction should be for the wall where
the insulation is located. Edges of retaining wa11s
should be treated in a manner similar to slab on grade
construction, using 4 feet as the minimum insulated distance
from the exposed surface.

3.5 Effective utilization of solar energy in a passive
Passive system is dependent upon proper sizing of both the solar
Solar aperture (glazing through which solar energy is collected

Passive solar gain should be calculated for the house
if the south facade has an appreciable amount of unob-
structed glazing. Check the appropriate 6ox describing
the system type and list the solar aperture area. Only
the actual glass may be used, exclud9ng all sash and mullion
areas. If night insulation is used, list the R-value in
the appropriate place. Other pertinent information such
as tilt and orientation (aximuth) of the solar aperture
should be listed in the appropriate place. See Section 4.7
to determine separation and overhang values for shading
devices on the south facade.
Building Load Coefficient (BLC) is the modified yearly loss
(QG - QM) from the building per degree day. BLC, as
. calculated in equation 3.5.1, is carried forward to
equation 3.5.2 to determine the Load Collector Ratio (LCR)
for the house.
Solar incidence angle (L - D) is the angle between a vertical
surface and the path of the sun and is dependent upon the ,
Latitute (L) of the site and the Declination (D) of the
sun for that month. Apparent declination of the sun 9s the
result of a 23° tilt in the earth's axis relative to the
path of its orbit. This phenomenon, as shown in Figure
3.5, causes the sun's rays to change angle throughout the
year producing a seasonal weather variation as well.

Incidence angle is of particular importance in locating
windows and sun shielding such as overhangs. Section 4.11
lists solar azimuth (plan angle from south) and altitude
vertical angle from horizontal} for various northern latitudes
and times of day. These data are provided for basic design
of the building but will correspond closely to calculated
incidence angle (L - D) at noon.

The Transmission Value (TV) for the solar aperture is entered
in Equation 3.5.4. For single glazed windows, use TV=.85;
for double glazed windows, use TV=.70; and for triple glazed
windows, use TV=.60.
The passive solar contribution is calculated in Table 3.5.3.
Refering to Section 4.10 for the appropriate system type, it
is possible to find the monthly Solar 5avings Fraction (SSF)
based on values for S/DD and LCR as previously calculated.
The SSF is the percentage of the monthly load which is off-
set by passive solar gain and when used in Equation 3.5.3
with the monthly degree days and BLC gives the energy saValues
in millions of BTU's for the month, (QpS Monthly QpS
should be carried forward to Table 3.7 for use in net 6uilding
load calculations. •
The passive solar contribution calculated in Table 3.5.3 as-
sumes that there is sufficient effective thermal storage in
the building to absorb the passive gain to prevent overheating
and venting. The ratio of effective thermal storage to aper-
ture area is assumed to be 45 BTU/°F per square foot of aper-
ture. This amount of thermal storage is necessary for systems
with a Solar Savings Fraction (SSF) in the range of 65% to 90%. .
For systems with a small SSF a lower ratio of mass to aperture
can be used.
The effectiveness of thermal storage is critical in the func-
tioning of the passive system. The most effective thermal
storage is in direct sunlight for the majority of the heating
anyTablei3.554rforrSeptember 2liand December 2ldsun anglesated
Thermal storage that does not receive significant direct solar
radiation but does receive diffuse or reflected solar radia-
tion is secondary storage. This storage is only about aoe-fourth
as effective as primary thermal storage. If the storage is
secondary, enter only 250. of the heat capacity in Table 3.9.4.
The appropriate box indicating if the storage is primary (P)
or secondary (5) should be circled in Table 3.5.4.

3.6 If a residence is designed using good energy conservation
Active and infiltration reduction principles, and if a reasonable
Solar passive solar ener9y system is incorporated in the design
Contribution there should be minimal need for an active solar space
heating system. It is the intent of this program to
promote housing that uses conservation and passive solar
systems. If, however, a proposer feels that an active solar
space heating system is appropriate and can be accanplished
within the established budgets, the following calculation
method is to be followed.
Proposals including active solar energy systems must conform
to the standards and the disclosure as presented in the
Minnesota Code of Agency Rules, Building Code Division,
Solar Energy, 1977 Edition. Calculations must conform to
procedures as set forth in this code. Refer to Section
4.16 for availability of this code and to Section 4.14 for
a copy of the disclosure form to be used to establish
code compliance.
Proposals including site built active solar ener9y systems
must also conform to this code. Analysis for these site
built systems must be reviewed with Stanley 0. Starr of
the Mid American Solar Energy Complex (612-853-0400) prior
to submission of the proposal. The address is:
