enCBpsulated with a scrim-reinforced toii. 11 is used to
tire rate commercisl kitChen grease ducts and is a
proven aftemative co 1 or 2 hour fire resistant ratea
shaft enciosures. This non-asbestos wrap contains a
sai2r fFbef ConStruCtion" and tnstaifs 2asily because of
its high flexibility and strength. 3M Fre Barrier Duct
Wrap 15A is tfie thinnest standard, sinyte tayer fire
resistant wrap that has passed the UL1978 Sesi which
simulates a grease duct fire. With its exCellent
insutating ppabilities, it is an ideal cho?ce for tight
spaces because it proteets combus[ible constructions
ai zero c[earance to the oveiiap or callar. 3M Fire

Method: To minimixe vvaste, 3M Flra earrler Duct
. Wrap 15A material should be rolled out tautty before
measuring. Generai instructions for instalfing the 3M
Fire 6arrier Duct Wrap 15A inciude a one-layef wrap
construdion appfied directly to the ducc. The 3M Fire
Barrier puct Wrap 16A blanket is wrapped around the
perimeter ot the duCt and is cut to e length to gverlap
" 3tself not tess than 3 in. (76 mm). The overTap made
by adJaceM tdankets tomts the 'ypngitudinal° overlap.
Aluminum ioil tape is used to seal all cut ecfges ot the
blanket and eny cears in the roil scrim.
There are three (3) approved inst8lfatfon
techniqueg for insfalling the 3M Ftre Barrier DuM
Wrap 15A (See Figare 7):
1. Telesceping 3 in_ (78 mm) Overlgp Wrap
UViSh ihe tele$coping averiap wrap rnethod, each
blanket overlaps one ad'?scent blanket, and each
blanket has one edge exposed and one edge covered
by the next blanket as shown in Figure i. The visitNe
edges of the perimeter nverlaps all point in the same
direction.
2. Checkerboard 3 in. (76 mm) avedap Wrap
With the 3 in. (76 mrn) chedcerpoard wehap wrap
method, blenkets with bolh edges exposed alternate
with blankets with covered edges, as shown in Figure
1. The vi5ible ECigeS of the peCialetEf Overlaps
akemate their directions end appear on every other
blankef.
3. 8utt Jolnt 1ARth Coflar
With the butt joint and Collar amethod, adjacent
blankets are bvtted tightly together and 6 in. (152 mrn)
wEde coftar ot 3M Flse Barrier Duct Wrap is centered
vver the joint, ovedapping each blanket by
.3 in. (76 mm) minimum as showa in Figure 1.
In all ihrae ove?lap techniques the penrneter overlap
can oocur at any tocation on the duct.
The blanket is meChaniCaily attsChed io the dud by
steel banding or by welded insutation pins and cEips
for all three installaSon methods listad.above.
For Banding Oniy (See F[gure 1)
Filament tape can be used W tempararily hofd the
blanket in place until the banding is applied. Tha steel
banding is applied arounrl the duct 1-1(2 in. (38 mm)
from each edge oF the biartket, and maximum
10-1/2;n. (26.7 cm) centers. The banding is placed
aroUnd the rnateRaE and tfghtened so as to sumoiently
hokl the 3M Firs Barrier Duct Wrap 15A in pface
against the duct, compressirt9 the foil but not cutting
the foil.
Additional Ptnning to Prevent Sagging of the
Wrap: For Ducts 24 in. (60 crn) and larger in wicfih, .
additional pires a?e needed to support the blanket on
the bottom horizontal surFace and on the outside face
of a vertical duct run. Space pins a maximum ot
10-1/2 in. (26,7 cm) apart in the dirACtion of th9
blanket width, and a maximum of 12 in. (30 cm) apart
in the direction of the blanket length. Refer to
paragraph be{aw for more inforrnation on Mechanical
Fastaning with Pins.
For Mechaniral Fastening wlth Pins Only
Insulation pins are weMed to the duct in the centers
of ihe overlaps a minimum of 7-1/2 in. (38 mm) from
each edge of the blankat, and spaced a maximum of
10-1/2 in. (26,7 cm) on conter afong perirneter
overlap, and a maximum of 10-1/2 in_ (26,7 mm) on
center along longitudinal ovedaps. The blanket is
Impated ovar the pins and neld tn place by gahranized
spee4 clips. (nsulation pins that extend beyond the
