We need a furnace that can produce a minimum of 4ton air volume(1600 cfm). That is why you see the furnace you do. The furnace has two stages worth of beat. First stage is 60,000158,000 and second stage is 58000/84000.(Input/Output) The design of the geothermal system is such that it will handle approximately 98.1% of the total heating demand for the home. The heat pump has two stages of heat and cooling. In the event that the heat pump cannot keep up or if the utility is cycling the dual fuel program, the back up will come on at low fire to maintain heat in the home. The back up furnace is the 3rd stage of the heating component. I hope that explains our position and why we need to have the furnace choice that we have indicated. Lennox manufactures their furnaces with either a 3ton variable or a Ston variable. The 3ton will be incapable of delivering the air capacity that we need to effectively operate the geothermal.
