Chet Harrison called. They want an approx. 10 x 8 sign on Denmark and a 3 x 5 directional on Lexington. Gave him setbacks, told him directional is ok. I explained to Chet Harrison, Civil Engineer from Transystems (651- 216 -4755, ciharrison@transystems.com) that a CUP would be needed for a sign of that height; he said they are an entity all their own and wouldn't do it. I said the height should be reduced to 7'; he said they likely wouldn't do it but he'd get back to me. I said at the minimum, a sign permit is required. Aaron from Gray Construction called. They will submit a sign permit and fee. Received permit and fee. Discussed this application with Mike Lence. Pylons require a CUP, sign permit, building permit and engineer drawings. But because it's the USPS, they weren't accepting of making the necessary applications and getting the necessary approvals for their sign. Mike reviewed the footing, commenting he is not an engineer so his review is basic and cursory. I reviewed the sign permit application and approved it as presented. mg LOGISMap Output Page Page 1 of 1 efJfi - // % r /'nj Mao oeled wort MASS Copmp l LO(L http://gis.logis.org/LOGIS_ArcIMS/ims?ServiceName=ea_LOGISMap O V SDE &ClientV ersion= 4.0 &Fo... 7/28/2010 Mary Granley From: Jon Hohenstein Sent: Thursday, July 22, 2010 3:30 PM To: Mike Ridley; Mary Granley Subject: RE: Fax on Post Facility signage There's rarely any harm in the asking. I have no heartburn on the size either for the reason you note and we made our big picture deal back when they blinked and agreed to the road connection, but there's no harm in the asking. Mary, 2 Get back to Mr. Engineer and let him know how a 10' sign would be considered for a private project and see if they will do the CUP. Whether they will or won't, shoot for the permit fee. As to the size of the Denmark sign, it doesn't give me any heartburn at all; that is one massive facility and we're getting Denmark connected at their expense. We may or may not get it, but they did pay for their land use application. You might even tell them that it is permitted if they get a CUP for a pylon. See how that flies. Original Message From: Mary Granley Sent: Friday, July 16, 2010 2:38 PM To: Jon Hohenstein; Mike Ridley Subject: FW: Fax on Post Facility signage Jon and Mike, Attached is the plan submitted for the Postal Facility signage. One sign to be placed at the Denmark entrance to the facility is 10' high x approx 8' wide (sign B10). The other sign is a 3'x 5' directional to be placed at the Lexington entrance (sign K6). I gave the contact the requirements for signage, and told him the directional was fine but the entrance sign should be 7' max. He is a civil engineer and explained his dilemma working with the postal facility and them doing as they saw fit. I told him I understood completely. I gave him setback info and he said he could meet that. I'll expect then that the signage will be as they presented in the plan, and I won't see any permits. Let me know if I should expect otherwise. I reviewed your plan. Typically, a private project would require a Conditional Use Permit with Council approval for a pylon over 7' in height at the Denmark location. I realize the postal facility is an entity all its own though, so it would be exceptional if we could keep things compliant with City Code by meeting the 10' setbacks from all property lines, and get a sign permit and fee ($193.75) for the pylon sign to keep things in order at our end. The directional on Lexington is fine as presented, no permit requirement on that one. Thanks for your assistance, and have a pleasant weekend.
