Dear Jeff,
Dow
This letter is to certify that theme+ window installed at 1308 Dunbe
installed in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the installation manual fro by
Renewal by Andersen. This manual applies to all products that we install and all warranties are
in affect for product once it is installed. Renewal by Andersen assumes liability for the
installation of our products for 5 years from the date of installation, which would include labor
and materials for any product we install that fails for any reason caused by incomplete or faulty
installation practices. The Renewal by Andersen - Roseville retail location installation crews are
all trained through an in house trainer and are held to exceptionally strict standards through
internal quality control and through independent customer satisfaction surveys.
We apologize for any inconvenience we have caused by not coordinating a framing
inspection at the time of install, since this is not a requirement from any of the other cities we
work in, simply just an oversight on our part. We will endeavor to make sure we schedule
framing inspections for bay and bow window installations in the future in the city of Eagan.
Enclosed you will find the installation procedures for bays and bows, which include the box
portion of the unit. These instructions are the manufacturers' guidelines. Please feel free to
contact me if I have missed anything, I will do what I can to help.
Sincerely,
Bryan Horton

3. Prepare the Opening
Also see Modifications for Full -Frame and Patio Door Installations.
• Measure the rough opening. If there are any gaps exceeding V2", the opening must
be firred down with plywood strips or 1" x 4" pine along the full length of the sill,
head or side jambs. Apply sealant to prevent gaps.
• Cut back any sheathing, drywall, or plaster projecting into the rough opening. Pull
out or pound in any nails. Vacuum all debris.
• Check for damaged framing. Replace damaged or deteriorated rough sill, trimmer
studs, or sheathing. If repair or replacement has not been included in the job cost,
follow your location's policy regarding unforeseen costs.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
P R O D U C T INSTALLATION MANUAL
Angle Bay and Bow Windows - General Description
The Renewal by Andersen® bay and bow windows consist of a preconstructed
frame installed with Renewal insert window products. The frame is made to
order to fit the rough opening and includes the head and seat board, posts, and
aluminum -clad side jambs. An anchoring system is provided to support the
window from the top of the head board to either an existing overhang or the
rough opening header.
1. Verify Opening
Preparation for installing a bay or bow replacement window is the same as for a
full -frame replacement.
Before removing the existing window, check the measurement forms in the
Install Job Packet to confirm the following:
• New window is the correct style and interior /exterior color.
• New window is sized correctly to fit within the interior trim, exterior trim, and rough
opening parameters.
• Existing wall is in sound structural condition to allow proper installation.
2. Remove Old Window
• Score the joint between the casing and wall.
• Carefully remove the casing.
• Remove the sash from the frame, unless the window is very small and can be
handled safely as a unit.
• Cut the exterior sealant joint and carefully remove the exterior trim.
• Run a reciprocating saw blade around the gap between the rough opening and
the window frame to cut any nails that may be driven through the jambs. Tip the
window frame out of the opening (typically to the exterior). Take care to avoid
damaging siding, drywall, or plaster.

• The bay or bow window frame is packaged in corrugated cardboard and stretch
wrap to prevent damage during shipping. The frame is shipped upside -down
to protect the aluminum cladding. Use care when cutting the stretch wrap and
cardboard packaging.
• Read the Handling Tips instructions for the style of insert window being used in the
bay or bow window.
Do not twist or rack the insert windows or bay /bow frame in any way.
Install windows using screws and other fastening devices specified by Renewal by
Andersen.
• Each window frame must be level, plumb, and shimmed properly at each screw as
well as other appropriate locations.
• Each frame must be checked for sash alignment and squareness before trim is installed.
• Each window must be properly insulated and sealed before trim is applied.
• All necessary exterior stops must be applied prior to trimming the exterior.
• All exterior primary and finish sealant must be applied.

INSTALLATION
Cut the access hole before removing
the old unit to reduce interior mess.
Be aware of any electrical or ventilation
requirements. Be aware of clearance
dimension from top of unit to soffit for
hand and arm access to cable supports. If
necessary, cut outside the actual projection
line far enough to provide access.

6. Cut Access Hole In Soffit
For access holes where the bay /bow frame will be too close to the soffit for hand
and arm access:
• Lay out the cut line on the soffit outside the actual projection line. The cut line is
the line where the soffit material will be cut to provide hand and arm access to the
cornice space above.
• Cut along the outside cut line. Be careful not to cut too far outside the actual
projection line. Cover access holes outside the actual projection line with trim
board and aluminum wrap.

For access holes where there is enough hand and arm
clearance between the bay /bow frame and the soffit:
• Lay out the cut line on the soffit inside the actual
projection line. This is the line where the soffit
material will be cut to provide hand and arm
access to the cornice space above.
• Cut along the inside cut line.

Only the 3 1 /4" screws provided
with the window support kit must be used
to secure the straight line cable clamp.
A If truss tails are not located
vertically above the lower eye
bracket, install a header between
them and secure with joist
hangers. The anchoring point will
be on this header located vertically
above the lower eye bracket.
B Do not use rafters with a "bird's -
mouth" cut. To support the bay
without reinforcement cut a piece
of 3 /4" plywood to fit over the
rafter as a gusset. With this gusset
securely fastened in place, the
rafter can be used as an anchoring
point for the straight line clamp.
C A truss tail, if located vertically
above the lower eye bracket,
should provide adequate support.
D If necessary, install straight line
cable clamp to the header or top
plate above the opening. Angle
on the support cable cannot be
less than 30 °.

7. Install Straight Line Cable Clamps
• Identify a structurally sound point above the opening to install the straight line cable
clamps. If a structurally sound anchoring point is not present in a suitable location,
some framing work will need to be done to provide these points.
• Four common examples are shown below. Actual installation may vary.
• Hold the clamp parallel to the up- running cable, and run the #12 x 3 1 /4" wood
screws part way into the mounting surface. (Note: Be sure to use the #3 square drive
bit provided.)

INSTALLATION
Finished surfaces of the
head and seat boards are exposed
throughout the installation process.
Take care to prevent damage to these
surfaces. Cut and place a piece of the
corrugated packaging material on the
surface of the seat board. Use the top
of the bay /bow unit as a template for
cutting the corrugated board.

with bay frame or 16d casing nails.
Countersink the #10 x 5" wood screws
or casing nails at a 45° angle to the
interior wall.
Sides
• Set the side jambs flush to the
interior wall surface. Use a level
to verify that both jambs are on
the same plane. Make adjustments if
necessary. Use a level and shim to set
jambs plumb and straight so the unit is
square.
