The existing structure was built under the model code and can be assumed to be properly constructed and braced. Your addition enlarges your house but it is still within the bracing envelope of an ordinary residence. The rear and side of the addition are conventionally braced with OSB sheathing. The front can be made to comply using a code allowable alternate bracing method. One half of a portal frame will comply with percentage, placement and size requirements for bracing. Attached are details for your garage addition calling for an extended header over the garage door, special framing, OSB sheathing and a firm anchorage into special reinforcing of the new garage foundation.
