2198 Liberty Lane• C?1 ProRoc'" SHEATNIING TREATED CORE ProRot'" SHEATHIMG TREATED CORE TYPE X ProROC'Sheathing Treated Core is a water-repellent gypsum sheathing for application to the outside of building freming mem- bers, and serves as the base for the euterior wall finish. ProRoc' Sheathing Treated Core Type X provides the same base as ProROC'" Sheathing, plus it has a spe- cially formulated core for use in fire resistance-rated designs. Both products con- sist of a solid set, gypsum core covered with durable water-resistant backing and face paper. ProRoc'" Sheathing and ProRoc'" Sheathing Type X are avail- able in a variety of lengths. Basic Uses ProRoc'" Sheathing and ProRoc" Sheathing Type X are used as attachments to the outside of exterior wall framing as a water-resistant underlayment for various siding materials. ProRoc" Sheathing and ProRoc'" Sheathing Type X can be used as a sheathing for wood-framed residential construction to provide fire resistance, weather protec- tion and to add structural strength when used under eMerior finishes. They can also serve as sheathing for steel stud commercial construction and as a component in curtainwall and exterior insulation and finish systems. ProRoc" Sheathing Type X can be used in fire-rated exterior wall assemblies. Advantages • Low material and applica- tian costs. • Moisture-resistant core and water-repellent sur- faces provide a barrier that resists passage of wind and water. • Non-combustible gypsum core protects framing ele- ments, even when siding or finish material is com- busti6le. • Can be scored and snapped to exact size without cutting or sawing. • Consistently high quality. • High edge hardness. • No wavy edges, warps, bows or deformities. Limitations • ProRoc" Sheathing is not a finished surface, nor is it a substrate for the dired application of stucco, paint or textures. • Framing spacing should not exceed 24" o.c. • ProRoc'"Sheathing should not he used as a nailing base. • ProRoc" Sheathing appli- cation to framing 6y adhesive only is not rec- ommended. • Boards should be stacked flat with care taken to prevent sagging or dam- age to edges, ends and surfaces. • ProRoc'" Sheathing is not recommended for appli- cation to exterior ceilings, soffits or sills. • ProRoc" Sheathing should be spaced not less than 1/4" from abutting masonryto minimize wicking. • Storing outside for up to one month is acceptable if rtacked off the ground and under protective cover. Date Product(s) Specified • ProRoc' Sheathing and ProRoc" Sheathing Type X are designed for use as a substrate to be covered by an exterior cladding or other weather barrier, and are not intended for long-term exposure. Treated Core sheathing may be left exposed for up to one month after application. Composition and Materials ProROC' Sheathing and ProRoc° Sheathing Type X are manufactured panels with gypsum cores, covered with durable, water-resis- tantface and backing paper. Available with a water-resistant treated core or a nontreated core. ProRoc" Sheathing Type X also contains various additives to enhance the fire-resistive qualities. Continued on back C? , ?? Surface Burning Characteristics All ProRoc'" Sheathing has a Flame Spread rating of 15 and Smoke Developed rat- ing of 0, in accordance with ASTM E 84. (UL 723, UBC 8-1, NFPA 255, CAN/ULC-5702) Fire Resistance Fire resistante tests are con- ducted in aaordance with ASTM E 119, (ANSI/UL 263, UBC 7-1, NFPA 251, CANN1-C-5701) and no war- ranty is made other than conformance to the stan- dard under which the assembly was tested. Minor discrepanties may exist in the values of ratings, attrib- utable to changes in materi- als and standards, as well as differences between testing facilities. Assembliesare listed as "combustible" (wood freming) and "non- combustible" (concrete and/or steel construdion). For fire resistance ratings, refer to the Gypsum Association Fire Resistance Design Manual and UL Fire Resistance Directory - Vol. 1. Applicable Standards and References ASTM C 1280 Gypsum Association GA-253 and GA-254 ICC international Building Code (IBC) Recommendations Installation of ProRoc" Sheathing and ProRoc" Sheathing Type X should he consistent with methods described in the standards and references noted. Fasteners should bear tight- ly against the face of the sheathing, but should not cut into the face paper. Staples should be driven with the crown parallel to the framing. Fasteners should be no less than 3/8" from the edges and ends of the sheathing. Apply vertically with verti- cal edges butting overthe center of framing members. Fit sheathing snugly around all openings. Attach sheathing with nails or screws spaced not over 4" o.c. around perimeter and 8" to intermediate studs (space staples not over 3" and 6" o.c. respectively). Horizontally-applied square edge gypsum sheathing shall be covered with build- ing felt or equivalent, or horizontal joints shall be sealed. • u USA BPB America Inc. 5301 Wes2 Cypress St., Smte 300 7ampa, FL 33607 - -+?' - - Dis[nbuted by Tall Free: +1-866-4 BPB USA (1-866-427-2872) Fax +1-813 286 3991 E-maiL crc@bp6-na.mm Web: www.bpb-na com Characterimcz, properties or pertormance of matenals or syztems manufaaured by BPB herein described are derrved trom data obtained under controlled tert mndi[ions. GA-253-99 0 is 0 • • • 6.8 Syuare edge gypsum sheathing applied perpendicular to framing shxll be covered with building felt or equivalen[, or horizontal join[s shall be sealed. 6.9 Tongue & Groove (V-edge) gypsum shea[hing shall be applied perpendicular ro framing members, with grooved edges down, intedocking the [ongue of the panel below without forc- ing. Ends of panels shall abu[ over centers of framing members and all end joints shall be staggered between adjacent wurses. Gypsum sheathing shall be Fitted snugly azound all window and door openings. 610 When shear values aze nol reyuired, fasteners shall be spaced not more than 8 in. (203 mm) o.c. along vertical ends or edges and interrnedia[e supports. When wall bracing or wall sheaz values are being assigned to the installed gypsum sheath- ing, the fas[ener spacing shall be as speciFied by the gypsum sheathing manufac[urer or as set forth in the Appendix. 610.1 Fasteuers shall be spaced not less than 3/8 in. (]0 mm) from the ends and edges of the gypsum sheathing. 610.2 Nails shall be driven so tha[ the heads are at or slightly below the surface of the gypsum sheathing. Care shall be taken to avoid damage to the face and core, such as breaking the paper or fracturing the core. 6.10.3 Screws shall be driven so Ihat the screw heads are at or slightly below the gypsum sheathing surFace paper without breaking the surface paper or stripping the framing member azound the screw shank. 6.10.4 Staples shall be driven with the crown parallel to framing members and in such a manner that the crown bears tightly agains[ the gypsum sheathing but dces no[ w[ into the face paper.
