11/10/1983 - City Council Special 00328 MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE EAGAN CITY COUNCIL EAGAN, MINNESOTA NOVEMBER 10, 1983 A special meeting of the Eagan City Council was held on Thursda November 10, 1983, at 7:15 P.M., at the Eagan City Hall. Present were ActLng Mayor Smith and City Councilmembers Wachter, Egan and Thomas. Mayor Blomquist was absent due to a meeting at Independent School District 196 and joined the City Council at Rahn Elementary School for the meeting with School Board members from Independent School District 191 later in the meeting. Also present were Director of Finance VanOverbeke and City Administrator Hedges. 1983 MUNICIPAL ELECTION The Finance Director/City Clerk VanOverbeke appeared with a canvas of returns for the 1983 Municipal Election required to be submitted and approved by the City Council within two (2) days after the election. He stated that the results of the election were as follows: Mayor TOTAL Bea Blomquist 403 Write In 8 City Council James A. Smith 383 Ted Wachter 405 Write In 8 TOTAL VOTES CAST 448 Following the review by Director of Finance/City Clerk VanOverbeke, a motion was made by Thomas and seconded by Egan, with all members voting in favor, that the official results and canvassing of the 1983 Municipal Election be approved as presented by the Director of Finance/City Clerk. JOINT MEETING WITH INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT 191 BOARD MEMBERS The meeting was reconvened by Mayor Blomquist with City Council- members Thomas, Egan and Smith present; City Councilmember Wachter was ill and did not attend the joint meeting with Independent School District 191 board members at Rahn Elementary School. The meeting was informal with no action taken; however, a number of issues such as, projected growth in the area, closing of Cedar Elementary School, the impact of budget cuts in both the School District and City, problems involved in the City of Eagan identifying with three school districts and also the current plans for improvement of County Road 30 were all discussed. There was also a suggestion by the Eagan officials that the City and School Districts work closely together when planning bond referendums so timing of bond issues are properly coordinated and not held in competition with each jurisdiction. 00329 Council Minutes November 10, 1983 There being no additional business, the meeting was officially adjourned at approximately 9:45 P.M.
